A master password is is used by EmpowerID to create a PKI (Public and Private) key that is linked to your person. This key is used to encrypt and decrypt data on your behalf. When you create a secret or use PAM for the first time, you will need to must create a master password. Then each time you check out a credential, create or view a secret or password, you use your master password to unlock the credential or secret.

How to create a master password
Navigate to the PAM Resources page by selecting Privileged Access > Request Access from the navbar.
On the PAM Resources page, select the Secrets tab and then click In the EmpowerID Web application, click your user name and select View Profile.
Click the Privileged Access tab and then expand Secrets.
Click Create Master Password.
In the Confirmation dialog that appears, click Yes. The warning displayed by this dialog is for users who already have a master password.
Enter a password in the Password and Confirm Password fields and click OK. Please note that this password cannot be the same as the password you use to authenticate to EmpowerID.
You should see a message stating that the request has been completed.
Now that you have a master password, you can use it when creating secrets and requesting access to credentials.
