EmpowerID provides three methods for sending notification emails from the system.
SMTP – This method is a simple SMTP relay from EmpowerID through a designated SMTP relay server. You can select to either send the message as an anonymous relay or you can specify an account to send the message as an authenticated relay. You can also choose whether you want to encrypt the communication
Exchange Web Services – This method sends the email by passing off the message to Exchange web services to send as an email originating in the mail system. This method can utilize either on-premise Exchange or Office 365 web services.
SendGrid – This method utilizes a cloud-based email delivery service from Twilio.
Email Config Settings Location
EmpowerID provides a configuration page under the Infrastructure Admin à EmpowerID Servers and Settings node where you can configure the method by which EmpowerID will send email notifications out from the system.

Email Providers Configuration
EmpowerID provides a priority setting that can be manipulated which determines the order in which email providers are evaluated for use. By assigning a lower number to the priority of a specific email provider you can let EmpowerID know which email provider is the preferred method of sending emails from the system. This configuration is found in the Infrastructure Admin > EmpowerID Servers and Settings under Email Provider.
