Configuring Field Types for App Rights

Application rights define the actions users can perform, such as creating, reading, updating, or deleting data. To enhance these permissions, incorporating field types, which categorize data specific to the application, is crucial.

By adding field types to app rights, administrators can create more precise and data-specific permissions. For instance, in a commerce application, permissions can be set so that only certain users can update the product catalog or view customer information based on specific data categories, such as the product type or customer region.

This article provides a concise guide to adding field types to app rights, ensuring efficient and secure permission management in your applications.

Procedure

Step 1: Sign In to Resource Admin

  1. Sign in to Resource Admin as at least a user with the Application RBAC Owner Management Role.

Step 2: Locate the PBAC Application

  1. Select Applications from the Resource Type Dropdown menu, search for the target PBAC application, and click the Details button.

     

    This action directs you to the Overview page for the application.

Step 3: Configure the Field Type Value to the Field Type

  1. On the app menu, browse to PBAC Definitions > App Rights.

  2. Click the gear icon for the app right you want to configure and select Configure Field Types for Right. This action initiates the Configure Application Authorization Field Type workflow.

  3. Search for the PBAC Field Type, click the record to select it and then click Next.

  4. Configure the following settings for the field type:

    • Selection is Required: Select this option to force users to select the field type when requesting access to the app right.

    • Allow selection of any values defined for field type: Enable this option to grant eligible users the ability to select any field type values defined for the field type.

    • Field Type Scope: Select Resource.

    • User Interface Selection Option: Specifies the user interface option that appears to users requesting access. For example, if the app right contains multiple field values and you want to allow users to select each one, you could select MultiSelectCheckBoxList.

  5. Click Next to complete the process.

Expected Results

EmpowerID adds the field type to the app right. You can view this by doing the following:

  1. Click the Details button for the app right.


    This opens the “Details” pane for the app right.

  2. Click the Field Types tab to view the added field type(s).
