Connectors enable the synchronization of identity data between external systems and EmpowerID. In some instances, you might be looking to import records from authoritative upstream systems of records, and other times you might want to flow the data from EmpowerID into downstream systems. The synchronization is necessary to manage the identity lifecycle across the system and also feeding in data from existing systems into EmpowerID which helps you get started with identity management immediately. EmpowerID provides connectors for a wide range of user directories and resource systems. As an administrator, you can use these connectors to quickly connect EmpowerID to your organization's identity-aware systems and applications. When you do so, you create an account store for that application in the EmpowerID Identity Warehouse and use that account store to configure how you want EmpowerID to manage the identity information in that system.

The topics in this module describe the various basic yet important concepts associated with connecting to external systems using the EmpowerID connector topology.

Connector Model: Overview of how EmpowerID provides common workflows that can support any connected external system. EmpowerID connectors are designed by segregating business logic and let you do that part.

Scheduled Connector Jobs: EmpowerID has six main jobs that run on a schedule for resource systems to ensure timely data flow between external systems and EmpowerID.

Schema Management: Map object attributes to account store attributes to external system attributes, to create the interrelationships between the attributes, including mapping attributes from the external system to their ultimate attribute assignment in the EmpowerID person.

Attribute Flow:Define flow rules that dictate what attribute changes in any connected system (Source), triggers changes in EmpowerID person object, and subsequently on other managed systems (Subscriber) the person has an account in.

A listing of connectors provided for the external system by EmpowerID is illustrated below.
