The SharePoint Online microservice uses Cosmo DB for SQL. This topic takes through the steps required to provision an account in Azure.

Provision a CosmosDB account

  1. Log in to your Azure portal as a user with the necessary permissions to provision a database.

  2. In Azure, navigate to All services and select Azure Cosmos DB.

  3. Click Add.

  4. Under Project Details, select a Subscription and create a new Resource Group.

  5. Under Instance Details, do the following:

    • Account Name — Enter a name for database account

    • API — Core (SQL)

    • Location — Select the appropriate geographic location

    • Capacity mode — Provisioned throughput

  6. Click Review + Create.

  7. Review the settings and make any adjustments needed for your environment and then click Create.
