A master password is is used by EmpowerID to create a PKI (Public and Private) key that is linked to your person. This key is used to encrypt and decrypt data on your behalf. When you create a secret or use PAM for the first time, you will need to create a master password. Then each time you check out a credential, create or view a secret or password, you use your master password to unlock the credential or secret. 

In order to create a Master Password, you need to have access to the 

To create a master password

  1. Navigate to the PAM Resources page by selecting Privileged Access > Request Access from the navbar.



  2. On the PAM Resources page, click the Secrets tab and then click Create Master Password.



  3. In the Confirmation dialog that appears, click Yes. The warning displayed by this dialog is for users who already have a master password. 



  4. Enter a password in the Password and Confirm Password fields and click OK. Please note that this password cannot be the same as the password you use to authenticate to EmpowerID.



    You should see a message stating that the request has completed. 



    Now that you have a master password, you can use it to create secrets and request access to credentials.
