How to use the EmpowerID System Preparation Tool
EmpowerID Support
The EmpowerID System Preparation Tool (aka ESP Tool) will help you determine if your environment meets the minimum Hardware and Software Requirements to install EmpowerID.
Download theÂ
ESP Tool to the Internet Information Services (IIS) server you wish to use for EmpowerID.
Unzip SystemPreparation.zip, right click ESP.exe and choose "Run as administrator".
If you are logged in as the EmpowerID service account, leave the radio button selected on "I plan to run EmpowerID services as the current user", then click Next. You will need to be logged in as an account that is a member of the local Administrators group.
If you are not logged in as the EmpowerID service account, change the radio button to "I plan to run EmpowerID services as a different account", enter the service account Username and Password, then click Next. When entering the service account, please use the DOMAIN\username format. This account will need to be a member of the local Administrators group and has been granted the "Allow log on locally" logon right.
Select the EmpowerID database server or instance from the drop-down list. If the EmpowerID database server or instance does not appear in the list, manually type the server or instance name in the box provided. When entering an EmpowerID database instance, please use the SERVERNAME\INSTANCENAME format.
If you are logged in as the EmpowerID service account, leave the radio button selected on "Current Windows User" and click Next.
If you are not logged in as the EmpowerID service account and your EmpowerID service account is a Windows user account, change the radio button to "Different Windows User", enter the service account Username and Password, then click Next. When entering the service account, please use the DOMAIN\username format.
If you are not logged in as the EmpowerID service account and your EmpowerID service account is a SQL authentication login, change the radio button to "SQL authentication", enter the service account Username and Password, then click Next.
Please wait while the ESP Tool gathers the needed information.
10. The Results screen will appear with the results of the scan. Requirement checks that have failed will be displayed at the top of the list. Please take corrective action and re-run the ESP Tool until no Failed items appear on the Results screen.
For example, in the results above I have an insufficient number of hard drives and insufficient hard drive space on the SQL server. I would need to add an additional hard drive to the SQL server and increase the available free hard drive space to 100GB or more before I would be ready to install EmpowerID.
NOTE:Â Items listed as Warnings do not indicate a failure to meet minimum requirements, but they represent a possible performance problem and should be addressed if possible (and within budget).
For guidance in meeting our minimum system requirements, please see the following documentation and Knowledge Base articles:

11. Once all requirement checks have been fulfilled, click the Export... button at the bottom right of the Results screen.
12. In the Export to File window that appears, in the File name: field, please type the server name as the file name. The exported file will be saved to the Desktop of the currently logged in user by default. Choose the desired location for the exported file and click the Save button.
13. Repeat Steps 1-12 for each of the remaining Internet Information Services (IIS) servers you wish to use for EmpowerID.
14. Zip up and email all of the exported ESP files to support@empowerid.com, your project manager or your support engineer to schedule your installation. The results are stored in an encrypted file that is safe to transmit over email.
