Vault Secrets

A secret in EmpowerID is an item protected by a master password. EmpowerID stores only a hash of the master password used to protect secrets, ensuring enhanced security. If a user loses their master password, any secrets they created will be irretrievable. Although users can create new master passwords, the old secrets will remain inaccessible unless the original master password is recovered.

Types of Secrets in EmpowerID

Users can vault three types of secrets in EmpowerID:

  • Password: Stores the password, username, and login page URL for an account.

  • Credit Card: Stores card type, card number, name on card, expiration date, and verification code for a credit card.

  • Note: Stores private notes with only the default Display Name and Notes section.

Ownership and Control of Secrets

It is important to note that secrets are personal information only. They cannot be used by other people or systems linked to a user account or an inventoried object such as a computer. Users own and control all secrets they vault.
