Manage Local Windows Services and App Pools

When EmpowerID connects to a local Windows machine, it inventories the services and app pools on those machines. EmpowerID can then manage them, allowing you to start and stop services and recycle app pools on those machines as needed.

Manage services and app pools

  1. On the navbar, expand Privileged Access and click Computers.

  2. Search for the computer with the services or app pools that you want to manage.

  3. Click the Display Name link for the computer.

This directs you to the computer's View One page. View One pages allow you to view and edit the objects to which they are linked.

Start and stop services

  1. To manage a service, expand the Windows Services accordion and then search for the service.

  2. Click the State button to start or stop the service as needed. A green bolt indicates the service is running, whereas a red bolt indicates the service is stopped.

Edit service identity

  1. To manage a service expand the Windows Services accordion and then search for the service.

  2. Click the Edit button for the service.

  3. Check Edit Service Identity, select the desired service identity account, and enter the password for that account.

  4. Click Save.

  5. Navigate to Privileged Access > Service Password Reset Inbox and verify the password reset for the service identity.

To view password resets in the inbox, the Queue Password Changes setting must be enabled on the Local Windows Server account store. This setting ensures that EmpowerID sends password changes to the Account Password Reset Inbox for batch processing.
