Registering a Mobile Device

Registering a Mobile Device to an account allows users to use Push and Passcode Multi-factor Authentication for logging into their EmpowerID account. The first time a user selects Mobile App Push, EmpowerID knows that you have not yet registered a mobile device and will show a QR code on the screen to allow your phone registration. When the QR code is showing on the screen, perform the steps below to register the device. If a user has already registered one device and wants to register additional device follow the instructions here in to add multiple device.

An option to configure Mobile App Push as an MFA is available for a person if,

  • An administrator must have made Mobile App Push an available MFA option in your Password Manager policy.

  • MFA is set as required for your login.

  1. On another device, such as your workstation, login to EmpowerID using your credentials. You should see a message stating that your account requires multi-factor authentication.

  2. Open the EmpowerID App on your device and press Scan.

  3. Press OK to give EmpowerID access to your mobile device's camera.

  4. The device's camera will open and start waiting for the QR code.

  5. Scan the QR code displayed in your browser.

  6. Upon successful registration, you should see your account registered in the application. You can now authenticate using the EmpowerID Mobile app.

You can register multiple devices for an EmpowerID account. Similarly, multiple accounts can be registered to the same device.

If your EmpowerID person already has registered a mobile phone, you will not see the QR code during login to add another. You may return to this initial state by having an admin delete your Mobile Phone MFA Asset.

Passwordless login does not allow registration of a Mobile Phone for security purposes.
